Illuminations is
a site for teachers to use as a resource. It provides more than 100 activities
that are aligned with the common core standards. It also has more than 600
hands-on lesson plans, a review of standards, and numerous online links and
resources for further information. Teachers can use this site as a resource to
assist them with their lesson plans. For teachers who have been teaching for a
while and are not familiar with the technologies available for them, this site
can be very useful for them. It also has numerous activities for teachers to
assign their students. The activities and lesson plans are split up into
specific grade levels. Teachers can pick and choose specific activities based
on their students’ grade level and/or level of understanding. The site also
provides free apps for mobile devices. For our students who are in the higher
grade levels, these mobile apps can be very effective in providing students another
resource to use when preparing for an assessment. It also has a section called
calculation nation. This section provides different games for students to
challenge themselves or their peers.
This site
provides various tools for both teachers and students to use. Different content
in mathematics can be hard to teach and even more difficult for students to
understand. As teachers, it is important to provide students numerous
explanations and examples of the specific content. Today we have been hearing
that is important to incorporate pictures and manipulatives into our math
lessons. Students have to have a lot of visuals to learn math. The
Illuminations site is one resource that can help with this aspect. Teachers are
able to use the site if they are having trouble representing and/or explaining
a certain topic or lesson.
After browsing through the website, I noticed the infinite resources that this website provides for Math teachers. You can access other lessons that other teachers have made and resources that can be used for your students. There are games students can play in order to understand the math problem better. I think this website is extraordinary and wish there was a similar Language Arts one.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is amazing! What a fantastic website to help teachers out. I do so enjoy different websites with different activities that help teacher creatively. It is hard, i could imagine, for math teachers to make math more exciting for students, especially for the students who find math difficult or uninteresting. This is a great resource to help you in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteAntonietta, this seems like a great and super useful site! I think it is really important, especially for new teachers, to have example of a bunch of different lesson plans that they could use even as a springboard to create their own lesson plans! It is awesome that it even divides it up by different grades! I am very interested in using this site when I get into the field to help me come up with some great lessons! I love too that as you said it is aligned with the Core Curriculum Standards!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you that this is definitely a useful site for teachers. It helps teachers on lesson planning. I used this website a lot when I was designing my unit plan for method course. Also, I think what makes this an excellent resource that teachers shall use is that it provides lots of interactive applications that teachers may incorporate into their lessons to stimulate students' interest. There are applets that deal with graphing, and completing the square that teachers may use. Also, the lesson plans on the website are aligned with the Common Core, which helps teachers a lot in planning their lessons. I absolutely love this website because I can always get excellent activity and lesson plan ideas from it.
ReplyDeleteThis website is great! I spent a few minutes looking through it and I am actually interested in using it myself. I am an English major but I tutor kids in Math and I also teach Math at an after-school program and this would definitely be a really good resource for me to use; thanks for sharing! I really wish there was something similar for Language Arts, as students of English could also benefit from having a site with so many visuals and games such as this one. I also like the fact that the website has mobile apps, because students would be able to access it even more frequently that way.

Like you said it has many online activities and games for students to try to help them practice their math skills. This is a fun website where students will not even realize that they are practicing math when they play. Teachers should take advantage of this site. This will bring more life and fun to the math classroom, students may start to enjoy math
ReplyDeleteThis site is an excellent way to make sure that the learning activities and lessons in your unit are appropriately aligned with the common core. Everything is becoming more and more geared towards testing and the common core. I really like to have resources, such as this site to make sure I am doing a good job with the way I am teaching my content area.
ReplyDeleteThis website is definitely great in the classroom, especially for younger students. Getting to play games in class is always exciting, especially math. The games on the website are fun, but very educational. The games allow students to visually see what they have been learning. Another reason it is so great is because students can access it outside of the classroom. Students can use Illuminations for further practice at home.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Illuminations, but it seems like a great tool to use. I particularly like how you said how this website can benefit both teachers and students. I am sure that students would appreciate the help from this website when creating their own projects. As students, we know how frustrating it is to complete a project if you do not even know where to start. The games section also seems interesting because students are engaged while learning.

I've never heard of this website, but after taking a look, there are a lot of different possibilities for tecaher's across the board. I like it because Its a good place just to pick up some ideas of new things to do. Nice job on finding this resource for yourself!

When teachers run out of new, interesting things to do they can definitely use this website as an aid. The teachers would like it because it helps them when they feel stuck and the students will like it because it suggest fun activites. Nice blog
